Thursday morning we were in Idaho at Seth's parent's house, which is out in the country on a hill overlooking farmer's fields, pens of horses, and large swaths of sagebrush and sand. In the morning, Isaiah went lizard hunting with his uncles and cousins, since lizards are known to hide out there. (Seth's brother used to catch them and sell them to fellow gradeschoolers for $1.) They hit jackpot when they scoured a pile of junk left out there, and the boys kept catching more lizards, despite our pleas that they stop. Isaiah was ecstatic! Calvin caught four and Isaiah caught two. Then grandma was wonderful and bought them each a terrarium, which they quickly filled with dirt and plants. Isaiah carried his lizards all through the house, tapped on the glass, fussed with the position of the plant, rearranged the dirt, and studied their every move. He loves that one of them has a fondness for burrowing in the sand to sleep, leaving only a tiny bit of his tail sticking out. He has yet to name them, but he's thrilled that he finally has pets of his own.
